FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How can I get dried ink out of my inkjet print head so I can print again?
Briefly place the clogged cartridge in less than an inch of warm water until the ink slowly leaks out (should only take a few minutes). Dry the cartridge off with a soft cloth. Put the cartridge back in your printer and run the print head cleaning utility that comes with your printer software. You may have to run this several times before printing.
How should I handle my cartridge?
Always keep print cartridges sealed in the original package until they are needed. You should store print cartridges at room temperature (60 - 78 degrees F or 15.6 to 26.6 degrees C) in an upright position. Never remove the protective tape from a new print cartridge until just before you install it. Once you remove the tape, do not reapply it. After you have removed the protective tape, avoid touching the contacts and nozzles. We recommend that you print at least once a month to keep the print cartridges in good working order. Always turn the printer off by pressing the button on the printer control panel, rather than by unplugging the printer. Turning the printer off properly allows it to protect the cartridges. If you are removing a cartridge from the printer temporarily (for instance, removing the black cartridge in order to install the photo cartridge), put it in a cartridge protector.
What is a re-manufactured ink jet cartridge?
Re-manufactured cartridges have been recycled to meet or exceed OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) specifications. The recycling process involves disassembling, inspecting, thoroughly cleaning, reassembling and completely filling the product with ink. Finally, the cartridge is run through an actual print test.
Do you buy back empty cartridges?
Prepaid return shipping labels are included, and proceeds are donated to charity.
What is the shelf life of compatible brand ink cartridges?
Compatible brand ink cartridges have a three-year shelf life.
Why isn't my printer model listed on the box that I received? Is my new cartridge compatible with my printer?
Every box does not list every compatible printer model. Because some cartridges fit many different printers, there is not enough space on the box to list each compatible model. If the product numbers on the box match the cartridge number on your old cartridge, then your new cartridge is compatible with your printer.
Why does my cartridge have a different letter (like A, G or D) on the end of the name?
The letters on the end of the product name indicate the amount of ink or volume that a Hewlett Packard OEM cartridge contains. Regardless of the letter at the end, the physical cartridges are exactly the same.

How does my inkjet cartridge work?
A cartridge contains a print head (the metallic-looking portion of the cartridge), nozzles and circuitry. All are housed within the cartridge itself. The print head, nozzles and circuitry perform most of the work when printing.
What is a printhead?
A printhead is the device in an inkjet printer which sprays droplets of ink onto a sheet of paper. Most desktop inkjet printers use cartridges that come with the print head attached; a few printers have separate print heads next to which the ink cartridge is inserted. All cartridges that contain print heads (such as HP, Canon) contain some circuitry built into the cartridge. The printhead can wear out over time and should not be touched with your fingers. When this occurs the only solution is to buy another one, bearing in mind though that properly maintained and used correctly, a cartridge can be recycled up to 9-10 times before it dies!
A printhead requires proper installation and ongoing maintenance to ensure the long life of service for your printer. Most print quality problems are a direct result of improper care of the printhead. Care needs to be taken to keep the print head clean to stop the ink from "clogging" and giving inconsistent results. Care needs to be taken to keep the print head clean to stop the ink from "clogging" and giving inconsistent results.
What is a nozzle?
Nozzles are where the ink comes out. Cartridges can contain between 48 and 320 nozzles (and more), are smaller than a human hair and connect to a heater or resistor which heats and cools the ink inside the cartridge. When the ink is heated, a bubble forms. When the heat is removed, the bubble bursts, sending dots of ink through the nozzles and onto the page. The dots form the characters on the page at a rate of 6,000 drops per second. When your cartridge wears out, it is actually the heaters that are "burning" out. This will happen, on average, every 3-5 times you refill or recycle.
